Spiritual Support

Illness that requires end-of-life services is an illness that causes many types of suffering. Physical pain may be the most urgent need to address, but spiritual and emotional suffering can also be eased through hospice services. Loneliness and isolation from your biological or spiritual family along with the financial concerns that come with serious illness can lead to feelings of depression and doubt. Many people facing end-of-life issues find strength in their faith and spiritual teachings. Spiritual care is an important focus at Agapé Hospice because we value each patient as a whole individual, not just a set of symptoms to be managed.

The Role of Spiritual Support in Hospice Services

Agapé Hospice is a faith-based, multicultural organization that offers comfort-focused care regardless of a patient’s diagnosis, their ability to pay for hospice services, or the complexity of their needs—and that includes spiritual care. The role we take in spiritual support is to meet the needs and concerns of our patients. Our hospice chaplains are available to encourage, offer feedback, and listen as patients and their family members cope with the painful, and sometimes confusing, issues related to end-of-life care. Our chaplains offer practical and spiritual guidance during this difficult time without enforcing religious boundaries. The goal is to offer spiritual support within the framework of your belief system. Agapé Hospice chaplains can also contact representatives from your personal religious tradition or faith organization.

Receiving hospice services may prompt patients and family members to question the meaning of life or their individual purpose. Some people feel the need to share feelings or experiences from the past and want spiritual support to process those feelings before it’s too late. Though difficult, all of this is a normal part of the end-of-life process. Chaplains at Agapé Hospice specialize in caring for patients who are facing these challenges.

How Agapé Hospice Services Can Help

Our hospice services are created to serve the needs of our patients and to help them cope with their illness on all levels. Some patients enter hospice care with the strong support of family, friends and a faith community. Others may want to reestablish relationships with their religious beliefs. Whatever the circumstance, spiritual support from Agapé Hospice is available to all patients and their family members. We offer multi-cultural, nondenominational understanding that respects you or your loved one as they face end of life. Our spiritual support services include:

The family of Dianne Bush wants to especially thank Jim Shinta, Kim Hartman and Melanie McAlhaney for their care of Dianne and the support and kindness shown to our family members. Dianne’s husband, Ashley, said “If I had known how much hospice could help I would have requested the service much earlier.”
