Hospice Services

Compassionate, comfort-based care is our primary goal at Agapé Hospice. Our experienced, highly-trained staff members deliver both personal and professional services for the benefit of your loved ones and your family. We know that approaching the end of a loved one’s life is always a challenge — but it’s also a natural and unavoidable part of a life well lived. We are able to deliver the best in care to our patients by focusing on emotional and spiritual support in addition to medical assistance.

What Are Hospice Services?

Hospice services provide palliative, end-of-life care, rather than treatments that are curative in nature. Through our services, we hope to offer physical and spiritual comfort to those who are preparing to pass on. This includes treatment of medical issues, pain management, and emotional assistance. Not only do we strive to keep our patients comfortable, but we also try to keep them as active and healthy as possible throughout. This can include compensatory strategies, such as physical rehabilitation and dealing with the loss of hearing and sight.

Our hospice services include all levels of hospice care, which are: routine home care, continuous home care, general inpatient care, and inpatient respite care. In close coordination with the attending medical professional, we’ll help you or your loved one find the care that’s needed.

Routine home care is the most common level of hospice care. This care is offered in the patient’s primary residence, which may be a private home, assisted living, skilled nursing facility, or a private room in a hospice house. Continuous home care is a little more intensive, as it is intended to help manage pain and other symptoms. Continuous care is predominately provided by experienced nurses who help maintain the patient at home during a pain or other clinical crisis. This nursing care is supplemented and supported by certified nursing assistants.

As the most intense level of care provided for pain control or acute symptom management, the hospice team employs general inpatient care when therapeutic intervention cannot feasibly be offered at a lower care setting. General inpatient care is used when other efforts to manage the crisis have proved ineffective, and this care is provided in a Medicare-certified hospital with registered nurses on site 24 hours a day.

In 2014 and 2015, Agapé gave 5,829 and 5,359 days of inpatient care, respectively. We have also been granted a certificate by the Department of Health and Environmental Control to build an additional 30-bed hospice house. We currently have 28 contracts for general inpatient care, so it’s very likely that our services are offered near you.

Our services aren’t just available for our patients. Our caring and experienced staff members are also available to help caregivers and close family members. Inpatient respite care is available to provide temporary relief to the primary caregiver. This respite care can be provided in a skilled nursing facility, a hospice house, or a hospital. Our nursing personnel are on site 24 hours a day to ensure that the needs of every patient are met. Respite care can be provided for up to 5 consecutive days.

At Agapé Hospice, we’re here to help you and your family through this difficult time. We can educate you and your family on the best way to manage your loved one’s illness and we can provide support and assistance when both questions and challenges arise. At Agapé Hospice, our hope is to ease all levels of the end-of-life stage.

Agape hospice came in and surrounded my dad, myself, and the rest of our family with all the love, care, patience, friendship, and support that I could have ever asked for or ever imagined.
