Columbia Community Hospice House
Specialized COVID-19 Care at Columbia Community Hospice House
In March, CMS issued guidance that: “Patients whose symptoms are exacerbated by COVID-19 and cannot be adequately managed in the home setting, should be transferred to a hospice inpatient unit.”
The COVID-19 care team at Columbia Community Hospice House has received additional training related to infection control. The team is following both CDC and Department of Health and Environmental Control guidelines and is fully stocked with the appropriate screening tools and personal protective equipment (PPE).
The facility has been treated with mPale antimicrobial shield technology which bonds with a treated surface so when a microorganism comes in contact with the treated surface, the cell membrane is microscopically punctured offering added protection.
We have a hospice physician available 24/7. A registered nurse and certified nursing assistant are on-site 24/7. A nurse practitioner will also provide professional medical oversight daily.
We know that having a loved one diagnosed with COVID-19 is difficult and that time with them is precious. We have the ability to facilitate limited visitation for up to two visitors who pass pre-screening. All visitors are required to wear PPE provided by our staff. And, we are also allowing patients to have their pets with them in their room for companionship and comfort.
For patients’ families, counseling support is also available.
The Columbia Community Hospice House is accepting suspected and confirmed COVID-19 patients that meet hospice eligibility criteria.
Hospice admissions criteria: Patients who are diagnosed with an advanced or serious illness with a limited life expectancy of 6 months or less, if the disease runs its normal course, and are ready to forego further curative/life sustaining treatment to focus on comfort, symptom management, quality of life, and supportive care.
